Karlsruhe, August 12, 2019. Digitalization managers from some 250 companies met on June 6 and 7, 2019 in Wurzburg, Germany at “The Future Code”, an event hosted by Vogel Communications Group and the industry publication “Next Industry”. The event focused on product lifecycle management (PLM) and its impact on digitalization.

“The Future Code” is designed to drive ideas and to act as a catalyst for digitalization. The forum brought together industry experts to discuss current and emerging technologies like AI, robotics, data, and blockchain. “Even in a time of digitalization, there still is an urgent need for face-to-face communication – especially when it comes to strategizing and executing the implementation,” points of Till Pleyer, Head of Marketing at PROCAD GmbH & Co. KG.

PROCAD Managing Director Raimund Schlotmann took the podium to deliver a presentation based on his book “Digitalization in the Language of SMBs” where he talked about what digitalization, and particularly the digitalization of product lifecycle management, is really all about. His conclusion is that mid-sector companies have no reason to be paralyzed by emerging trends. Rather, they can demystify them and turn them to their advantage – by approaching them from the perspective of impact and business model and relying on a new type of generalist called “impact managers”.

Raimund Schlotmann: “You need to look at digitalization from the top down, starting from the business model.” When you apply this to the PLM system, this also means that companies need a central platform, also known as a Product Data Backbone. Many attendees also took the opportunity to learn how to do just that with the help of a PDM/PLM software inside the PROCAD Truck that was parked in front of the venue and open to visitors for both days of the event.
